My Summer 2020 (and quarantine so far...)

August 31, 2020

School starts tomorrow, so I thought this would be a good time to reflect on this summer. This summer/quarantine has been one of the most productive (loosely defined to include creativity :) periods of time for me. Not just academically, but in a lot of other things as well.

1. Reading + Blogging

I kinda stopped reading through junior and senior year of high school and even in freshman year of college because I guess I had too much going on. In quarantine, that changed for a couple of reasons. Obviously, more time, but also Reema started liking the same books as me. It’s nice having a reading buddy! I read lots of books the past few months.

This is also my first time blogging or consistently writing down my thoughts about something. I might change the website layout but I hope to keep writing for a while :). It’ll be cool to look at in the future. I guess I learnt a bit about HTML/CSS too while making a blog.

2. Consistent exercise

It feels good! And helps make me more tired so I can sleep at night easily. Shoutout to two snowflakes for participating and encouraging :D

3. Chess

Just some daily blitz on lichess and now some detailed endgame studies.

4. Drawing/Coloring

It was fun to draw out all my favorite characters or friends or even random Pokémon! And really relaxing. Me and my sister also wrote out backstories for some of the characters for fun!

Art of me and a best friend, and then Cookie Monster!

5. Driving and Cooking

Didn’t get my license because my permit expired but at least I can drive now (not really until I get my license probably after November tho). Also helping out with cooking family lunch/dinner was fun at first, now it’s more like a responsibility but it’s ok.

Some nutella puff pastries and Gulab Jamun. Yum :D

6. Scrapbooking

Me and Reema started scrapbooking some of our drawings and family pictures. We probably won’t finish it for a while, but it’s relaxing and also rewarding.

Snippets from a family scrapbook!

7. Academically

I did two summer classes (Partial Differential Equation Analysis and Organic Chemistry). I worked my first real job too, and it was a really good experience! My boss was super nice and I definitely learnt a lot more about biotech.
